For many men and women, unwanted hair can be a nightmare. Getting rid of it can be painful, messy and only temporary. Laser hair removal, administered by our expert medical staff, is the ultimate solution for excess hair on the face, underarms, back, bikini area, arms and legs!

The laser used by Advanced Skin Institute removes unwanted hair through selective photothermolysis. During this process, laser light is absorbed by the black and brown melanin pigment in hair. This results in heat, which disables the follicles, preventing them from growing new hair. We recommend bi-weekly treatments for at least 6 months (12 treatments) based on the average time it takes for the majority of hair follicles to move through an entire growth cycle.

During any one treatment cycle, some hair follicles are dormant and cannot be seen (a kind of sleep state) while some will grow and be visible. Not every hair can be treated at the same time. To benefit from laser treatment, the hair must be present during treatment (not in the dormant stage). Once the hair follicle is treated and disabled, it continues to work to eject the hair that was under the surface of the skin. This process takes up to 2 weeks to complete, during which time it will appear as if the hair is still growing . This is actually the treated hair being "pushed out" of the follicle.

Who is best treated with these lasers?

Hair removal lasers target the pigment in the hair follicle. The laser works best on brown or black hair. It is not effective for gray or blond hair. It can be used on patients with skin types I-IV (white to asian or hispanic).

How painful is the laser treatment?

No numbing is necessary for this procedure.

What to expect? The treatment sensation varies depending on the person and treatment area. Some feel a warm, prickling sensation. For best results, we recommend you increase a level until you've reached the highest setting that you can tolerate.

After your first treatment
There will be no visible change to the hair or the appearance of the skin. Shave between treatments, but don't pluck or wax hair.

After 2-3 months
Hair growth will appear lighter and finer. You'll begin to see a visible reduction in the amount of hair re-growth, especially where growth is dense.

After 6+ months
Follicles disabled by the laser will no longer grow hair.
