laser What laser does Advanced Skin Institute use for skin resurfacing?
We use a Hoya Con Bio erbium laser for skin resurfacing treatments. The erbium laser has been used extensively for resurfacing of wrinkles and provides precise control of the laser treatment depth.

How long have ASI's providers been performing skin resurfacing?
Drs. Hantash and Ammar have been performing laser resurfacing since 2003. Dr. Hantash helped in the development of the Fraxel and several other skin resurfacing lasers, while Dr. Ammar treated hundreds of patients in Beverly Hills using both erbium and CO2 lasers. Dr. Hantash has published many scientific papers on laser resurfacing and has served as a scientific advisor and invited keynote speaker at many international meetings.

How many treatments are needed?
Usually one treatment gives great results, but in patients with deeper wrinkles a second treatment may be needed.

How do laser treatments work?
With facial resurfacing, a high-energy beam of erbium light is used to vaporize lines, wrinkles, scars, dark spots and other irregularities, layer by layer. This process also stimulates the formation of new collagen over the next six months for continued improvement. Drs. Hantash and Ammar both perform erbium laser resurfacing themselves and tailor the procedure according to each patient's needs and desired recovery time.

What about my recovery time?
For moderate to deep resurfacing recovery time is about 7 to 10 days. The first few days the skin is red, swollen and slightly crusty. During this time it is very important to keep the skin moist with specific ointments given to you prior to your treatment. After 4-5 days the skin is healed but still pink. Skin care and sun protection is very important during this phase.

Are procedures painful?
The physicians at Advanced Skin Institute provide topical and intramuscular or oral medications to ensure pain control. Medication is tailored for each patient.

What results can I expect, and how long with the benefits of my treatment last?
Laser resufacing can restore you skin to a healthier state with fewer wrinkles. With proper sun protection, results can persist for more than five years. In certain instances where muscle activity is strong, we may recommend BOTOX to help prevent lines from reappearing sooner.
